This Ministry represents five sectors of: Trade, Industry, Technology (manufacturing and processing), Cooperatives, Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities. These fall within the economic service sector and thus impact on the performance of the country's economy and the well being of Ugandans directly or indirectly benefiting from this sector

Building on its mandate, the Ministry has an obligation to formulate HIV/AIDS policies, establish programs and provide leadership to related institutions to fulfill national HIV/AIDS goals. The Ministry is charged with monitoring and evaluating progress in implementing the sector HIV/AIDS related activities feeding into the National HIV/AIDS Strategic Framework (NSF). The Ministry also has to mobilize resources, monitor utilization, disseminate information and promote HIV/AIDS related research through its linkages with rural and urban enterprises. The private business sector falls under this Ministry.

Update:

  • There is an HIV/AIDS strategy and Work Plan in place but implementation is resource constrained,
  • HIV/AIDS committees have been formed in various departments. Members meet monthly.
  • Ministry employees and some entrepreneurs have been mobilized and sensitized.
  • Some business partners are willing and have supported HIV/AIDS activities of the Ministry.
  • The Ministry faces a challenge of reaching rural business communities.
