Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries (MOAAIF): The overall Ministry mandate is to support, promote and guide the production of crops, livestock and fisheries so as to ensure improved quality and quantity of agricultural produce and products for domestic consumption, food security and export. More than 86% of the country's population live in rural areas depending on subsistence farming for food and income. Increased HIV/AIDS morbidity and mortality therefore has a direct impact on their livelihoods and the national economy. The mission of the ministry therefore is to empower the agricultural sector personnel and farming communities to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, mitigate its adverse effects on agricultural production and enhance social economic development of farming (crops, livestock, and fishing) communities. Embedded is also a focus on ensuring appropriate nutrition especially for the infected and affected. Update:
