Parliamentary response
The role of elected political leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS cannot be underestimated. Besides ensuring a conducive policy environment for implementing national priorities and resource management, members of Parliament have a role to play in mass mobilization and sensitization against the epidemic.
A Parliamentary Standing Committee on HIV/AIDS was in 2002 established to spearhead the responses of the Parliament of Uganda with specific terms of reference. This Committee is considered as a constituency under the Uganda HIV/AIDS Partnership and sends a representative to the Partnership Committee. Members of this Committee have among other activities made visits to various districts around the country to assess progress on the implementation of the national program. This site presents reports of activities of Parliament including public statements and information on efforts by individual members of the House in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
