Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria

Invitation to the Uganda Round Eight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria

Background : The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria provides additional resources to fight three of the world's most devastating diseases and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need. As a partnership between Governments, civil society, the private sector and affected communities, the Global Fund represents an innovative approach to international health financing. The Global Fund has now called for Round 8 grant application proposals. The closing date for submission to Geneva is 1st July 2008 .

District reconnaissance missions and national level Consultative processes have been going on over the last two months and the Country Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund invites key stakeholders listed below to regional consultative meetings to contribute to the development of the Global Fund Round 8 Country Proposal.

The aim of Global Fund round 8 proposal is to effectively foster implementation of National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS, Health Sector Strategic Plan II and Other Sector Programme Implementation Plans through increasing access, coverage, equity, safety, quality and realise equitable and sustainable impact.

The objectives of the field consultations will be;

•  To obtain nationally generated and representative priorities for Uganda

•  To agree and gain consensus on round eight priorities for Uganda

•  To enlist meaningful engagement of local governments in the R8 proposal development process

•  To ensure active involvement of lower, district-based and district-focused civil society organizations in identifying and defining national priorities for AIDS, TB and Malaria for R8.

The consultative process is a continuous one and information on priorities can be forwarded to the CCM secretariat on the contacts below till the second week of June 2008. A national level consultative will be conducted and the dates and venue will be communicated

Who is invited to participate ?

The chief Administrative officer is requested to mobilize and select 5 participants from among the following as district participants for the one day meeting.

•  District Health Officer

•  District Planner

•  Community Development officer

•  Medical Superintendents of Regional Referral Hospitals

•  Regional TB Coordinator

 

The following civil society agencies are requested to select 1 participant each to participate in these consultative one day meetings.

•  UNASO representative

•  PHA Network representative

•  CBO representative

•  AMICAAL

•  Private Sector representative

•  MACIS

•  Stop TB Partnership CSO

•  PNFP/FBO Representative

All participants are requested report to the meeting venue by 4.00pm of the previous day. The detailed program will be delivered to the Chief Administrative officer for circulation.

Meeting Schedule and Venue

The following regional meetings will be held on the 28th May 2008 at the venues indicated:

  3. CentraL Ridar Hotel
  4. Soroti Soroti Hotel
  5. Gulu Acholi Inn
  6. Hoima Kolping

 

The following regional meetings will be held on the 30th May 2008 at the venues indicated:

  2. Mbale Mt. Elgon Hotel
  3. Lira Lira Hotel
  4. Arua Ombachi
  5. Fortportal Virika Social Centre

The national Consultative meeting targeting Kampala district, line Ministries, development partners, other national level public agencies, and national CSOs will take place on the 4th of June 2008 at Hotel Africana.
