On 1st December 2017, Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate World AIDS Day (WAD. World AIDS Day has become one of the most recognized international advocacy days and a key opportunity to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic; take stock of achievements; commemorate those who have passed away; and to rededicate ourselves to the fight against the epidemic. 

World AIDS Day commemoration 2017 was combined with the Regional Stakeholder Engagement and Accountability forum for Mid- North Region comprising of the Lango and Acholi Regions. 

The Global Theme was “Right to Health.” While the national theme was Reaching men, girls and young women to reduce new HIV infections.”This is in line with the main area of focus for the Presidential Fast Track Initiative to End AIDS in Uganda which focuses on men, girls and young women. It also recognized men, girls and young women’s right to access quality HIV and AIDS services in line with the global WAD theme. 

These combined events took place in Kole district in mid northern Uganda. The Guest of Honor was the Vice President of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi.
