District Response Initiative (DRI) Action Research:

The Action Research for the District Response Initiative (DRI) on HIV/AIDS was
launched in August 2002 by Uganda AIDS Commission on practices in various
communities that could have led to the decline of the HIV prevalence in the country.
It also targeted to take inventory of all community practices adapted to care for the
infected and mitigate impacts of HIV/AIDS in the communities. This exercise was
collecting, testing and contributing to the already existing knowledge.

The Action Research was designed to leave within the participating communities' skills
and capacity to carry out research and make scientific inventory of their local issues.
It was also intended to empower the communities to plan and prioritize for their needs.

DRI Action Research was carried out in 10 districts of Uganda. It was funded by
Pfizer Foundation through UNAIDS Geneva and UNICEF Uganda country office.
Below are the final reports and associated documents.
